Frequently Asked Questions!!!
Is it safe? We do our best to ensure the safety of our volunteers. Street Angels patrol in groups of at least two, always including at least one man and one woman. Each patrol is in contact with the CCTV and police. We have had very few incidents in which Street Angels have felt threatened. Usually we are in far more ‘danger’ of being hugged than attacked! How old/young do I have to be to volunteer? You need to be 18 or over. There is no upper age limit as long as you are able to walk the route. Do I have to be super fit? No – as long as you can walk around the city centre you can patrol with us. Although we reckon we can walk up to 5 miles a night. What should I wear on patrol? Warm, comfortable clothes – and, in winter, a hat and gloves. Please do not wear jeans as they soak up water when it rains and you would be very cold and uncomfortable. Waterproof trousers can be helpful when it rains. We provide warm, waterproof hi-viz jackets in various sizes. What should I bring? Warm clothes (see above). Something to eat – or money to buy a take-away in one of the many shops near the base. We provide hot drinks and biscuits. When do you patrol? On Saturday nights, weekly from 10pm to 3am ish Is there parking at the base? No. Just park in town and walk. We will ensure you do not walk back to your car on your own at the end of the night. Do you provide travel expenses? Unfortunately we can’t afford to do this. We can sometimes arrange lifts home at the end of the night for volunteers who live a distance from the base. |
